CHARLES G. FINNEY

 

The religious interest in this city continues to increase and spread. Not only are the union meetings fully attended still, but other efforts are being put forth, especially in our Methodist churches, for the upbuilding of Zion, and that with a good degree of success.

Probably there is not one evangelical denomination in the city but numbers at least some who have been hopefully converted. All the churches west of the river, especially the Brick, Washington street, and Plymouth churches, have been much blessed, and, we learn from the Democrat, that one of the churches on the east side (the Third Presbyterian,) received to its communion last Sabbath, nine persons, as a result of the present work of grace. Several students of the University, also a goodly number of young ladies in one of our Female Seminaries, have been hopefully brought to Christ. It is with heart-felt rejoicing that we hear of the spread of this work in other places in this section of our State. Is it not time for all our churches to stand in their places and ask of the Lord great blessings.--
